Awareness on Polio

On the occasion of "World Polio Day", Rotary Club of Itahari and Rotary Club of Itahari Yugal jointly organized a grand car rally in Itahari with the slogan “Let’s End Polio.” The event aimed to raise public awareness about Polio prevention and eradication. Rotaract Club of Itahari and Rotaract Club of Sunsari also joined their hands on the occasion.
Polio, once a leading cause of paralysis among children, spreads through contaminated food and water but can be prevented through vaccination. Rotary International and its partners have played a major role in reducing global polio cases by 99.9% since 1988, contributing over $1 billion to WHO & UNICEF and helping vaccinate billions of children worldwide.
In Nepal, polio vaccines are given orally and by injection to children under five years. The last case of polio in Nepal was reported in 2010, and the country was declared Polio-free in 2014.
The rally, featuring 40 vehicles with awareness banners and public announcements, started from Itahari Stadium and concluded with a gathering at Parnami Temple at Itahari. Along with this, Awareness message on Polio was displayed in the LCD Monitor placed at Itahari Chowk for public awareness. In the same way, all the Rotarians published Polio awareness banner in their Facebook page too. Rotary leaders, including President Rtn. DC Chaudhary, and past presidents of the club, emphasized the importance of vaccination, hygiene, and unity to ensure Nepal remains polio-free.
